OVERVIEW: This upcoming continuing education event brings together experts to address advances in improving the quality of the protection of human subjects/participants, the ethical review process and the key essential documents and processes in which the framework for study conduct is described.
Attendance at this free continuing education event will provide you with a broader understanding of:
1. Practical ways of moving towards improvements in evidence-based human research protection;
2. What ethics committees look for in terms of quality in submissions and how to identify “red flags” in advance to avoid delays in the review process; and
3. A behind the scenes look at the processes followed by industry to when designing protocols and informed consent form templates to ensure that quality is incorporated and ethical standards are met.
The morning session will be followed by an innovative and interactive afternoon workshop focusing on do’s and don’ts of the critically important process of administering informed consent.
Come and test your knowledge and receive a refresher of current Good Clinical Practice and regulatory considerations on how informed consent should be administered.

Vancouver Island Clinical Research Education Symposium – December 2, 2011
The 8th Vancouver Island Clinical Research Education Symposium was held on December 2, 2011, in Victoria, British Columbia. The half-day event, attended by over 50 clinical research professionals on Vancouver Island as well as surrounding areas such as Vancouver and NW Washington, featured an advanced refresher presentation on GCP by Rosalie Chartrand-Rodrique, Director of Quality and Compliance at Vifor Pharma. New insights were gained, including the importance of GMP knowledge for site personnel. The GCP presentation was followed by the first ever Vancouver Island GCP Championship, a group competition involving two groups of Sites vs. one composed of Sponsors/CROs. It came down to a tie-breaker, however one of the Site personnel groups reigned supreme! The goal of the GCP Championship was to assist attendees in translating GCP requirements into practical knowledge as well as to identify gaps that were filled during the discussion that followed. The morning succeeded in meeting its objectives! The next Symposium will run again in approximately 6 months (May 2012). The clinical research community in Victoria welcomes ACRP members from across Canada and the US to attend this bi-annual clinical research education event.
